Софийски камерен хор `Васил Арнаудов`
|
In recent years Church Eastern Orthodox Music has occupied a considerable place in the Bulgarian choirs repertoire. Thus quite naturally it appeared in the repertoire of one of the most prominent Bulgarian Choirs - `Vassil Arnaudov` Chamber Choir, directed by Theodora Pavlovich.
The choir was established in 1966. From 1976 to 1991 it was bearing the name of our great composer Liubomir Pipkov. Later it was called `Vassil Arnautov`, after the name of its director for many years. For all these years the Sofia Chamber Choir has made a repertoire of choir cycles from different styles and epochs. The very special place is taken by the works of Bulgarian composers, quite a number of which have been composed for `Vassil Arnaudov` Choir itself.
Since Theodora Pavlovich took the director’s place she has been strictly following the tradition established by her teacher Vassil Arnaudov. She has graduated choir-direction and tone-direction in the State Music Academy in Sofia and is now a prominent choir specialist in Bulgaria and abroad. Theodora Pavlovich is a director, a teacher (in State Music Academy `Pancho Vladigerov` in Sofia and in Sofia University `St. Kliment Ohridski`), a jury member in a series of international choir competitions, a member of the Board of directors of the International Federation of Choir Music (IFCM), a vice-president of the European Federation of Youth Choirs (EUROPA CANTAT), and the chairman of the Music Board of the Federation.
In the latest album of the choir `Orthodox Chants`, released by Gega New Music Productions, are included works created in the vast period between 14th and 20th century, starting with Joan Kukuzel and anonyms (from 13th and 19th century), going through Dobri Hristov and Petar Dinev, as wll as the Russion composers P.I.Chaikovski, D. Noskov, K. Shvedov, S. Rahmaninov, P. Chesnikov, till the contemporary Bulgarian composers (from the second half of the 20th century) Ivan Spasov, Aleksander Tanev, and Aleksander Tekeliev. Thus the album turns out to be an anthology of the different styles of the church Eastern Orthodox music.
