Maria Ilieva
|
Maria Ilieva was born on the 1st of December 1977 in Veliko Tatnovo. Her mother Vanya Moneva is the conductor of `Kosmicheski glasove` choir, and her father Krasimir Iliev is the concertmaster of the Sofia Brass Orchestra. Because of her parents’ engagements Maria has lived in the towns of Kazanlak and Lom.
Since she was five Maria has played the piano under the tutor’s care. In the town of the roses – Kazanlak, she received her basic education in music, and two years later joined the children choir `Buratino`. Then her family moved to Sofia city.
Mary, as her friends and relations call her, graduated from the Sofia Mathematics High School, and in 2000 from the University of National and World Economy with the specialty Insurance Business. At the time, quite by chance, she met the musicians from the group `Visoko`, who heard her performing the Tracy Chapmen’s song `Give me one reason` and offered her to join their group as a vocalist. She accepted `without thinking too much`, as she says now. Then she worked with the group `Kaffe`, and in 2001 began her own career.
The name of Maria Ilieva became famous when the two videos `Lunen san` (Moon Dream) and `Nishto`(Nothing) started to be played on MM TV, and when the music show `Melo TV Mania` gave her the `Golden note` award for a debut.
