Dyana Dafova

Dyana Dafova took up with music when she was only five-year-old kid. She studied piano and Classic ballet. Then she graduated from the Music School `Lyubomir Pipkov` in Sofia and later specialized classic piano and singing in the Musical Academy.
Dyana’s solo carrier began in 1985. In a few months only such songs as `Happiness Is Difficult To Get`, `Love Is Never Late`, `Different Worlds` became real hits and started playing on the air of the National Television and Radio, and Dyana received a special award at the competition `Melodiya na Godinata` (Melody of the Year).
In 1990 she went on tour to Yugoslavia, quite prosperous at the time, and achieved a great success. She sang in live in `Summer of Ady` (a television show) before more than 30 000 people. At the tour round the country participated native artists, as guest-musicians. The engagements finished days before the war in Bosnia burst out.
Dyana takes part in many enterprises for preserving the environment, helping them to popularize their ideas with her concerts and TV appearances. In 1992 in London the singer recorded a special single, bearing the name `No Messing`. Together with the museum `Zemyata i horata`(Earth and People) she started a movement called `Art for Nature`.
In 1994 Dyana went to Monte Carlo as a guest of the organizers of the World-Music Awards. There she met Plasido Domingo, Prince, Whitney Huston, Ray Charles, Scorpions, Patrick Swasy, and other famous persons.
The Album `Charisma` is Dyana’s first as a singer and songwriter. It is distributed in over 25 countries and is unique in its sound, born from the wonderful combination of elements from different genres. The songs in it are a contemporary interpretation of the Bulgarian folklore and orthodox music. The lyrics include languages such as Sanskrit, Celtic, Latin, Italian, Japanese, North American Indian, also Bulgarian and English. They are inspired by the search of the creative person in the supernatural world.
With the song `Taliesin` from this very album Dyana won the first award in the leading American song-competition, in the category `World`. The third award for `Best Song` was also given to her. In this category were nominated songs from 15 different styles from all over the world. Dyana was the first Bulgarian composer to participate in this prestigious competition. It was a great recognition to win two awards for compositions of hers.
