Her full name is Anelia Georgieva Atanasova.. Fans and music specialists are impressed of her specific tone quality and voice rich in ornament. Her debut song `Chuzhdi ustni`(Somebody else’s lips) was included in the first compilation of Pro Music label – `Folk Party 1`, and was established as one of the hits in the compiled album. With `Pogledni me v ochite` (Look at my eyes) Anelia confirmed the expectations that she was going to strive her way to the top.
Anelia was born in Stara Zagora city in 1982. She has been singing since she was a child. Her teacher in school – Slavka Ivanova was the one who first noticed Anelia’s talent. Once she heard the girl singing to herself in class and said to all the children to leave the room except Anelia. Then the girl sang alone to her teacher a Macedonian song. Slavka Ivanova immediately liked the performing. Since then she started including Anelia in all-possible celebrations and concerts. In her initiation even a trio of three girls (Anelia and two of her classmates) was formed, called Glasoviti Trakiicheta (Voice gifted Thracian children). Balkanton released their first record, in which were included only Thracian songs. Anelia was only 12 years old then. The girl also started singing in Zagorche Ensemble, and later went to Filip Kutev music school in Kotel. There she learned to play goudulka. With this instrument Anelia won several musical awards. In Stara Zagora she was thought by Nachko Vlaikov.
No sooner had the girl graduated school than Dragiya Rusev offered her to work in Switzerland. It took her only a month to prepare a repertoire of a hundred songs and took off for Zurich and Brick, spending there half a year. When Anelia came back she met the singer Milko Kalaydjiev, who ushered her in Payner Music. He had heard Anelia singing in a club, where they both performed, and was immediately grabbed by her talent and way of performance. The next day only they went in Payner Music studio and he introduced her to Todor Dimitrov. After a tentative recording Anelia was offered to make a contract with Payner Music and accepted in the young creative team of Pro Music. Anelia herself still believes that meeting Todor Dimitrov was the greatest luck in her life.
Having recorded `Chuzhdi ustni` Anelia went back to Switzerland to finish her engagement. Although they proposed her to stay there she was confirmed that going back to her native country was what she should do. In Bulgaria she felt secured and sterling.
Back in Bulgaria she recorded her second song in Payner Music `Pogledni me v ochite`. It appeared to be a real boom in the pop-folk music sphere. It occupied the first places of Bulgarian pop-folk charts and made Anelia a pop-folk star.
In December 2002 Anelia’s debut album was a fact. The album was also called `Pogledni me v ochite` and beside this song and its remix it included 9 more pieces, two of which were duets. One with Nelina - `Led i ogan`(Ice and fire), and one with DJ Jerry `Ne me laji`(Do not lie to me).
On the Annual Awards of `Nov Folk` magazine Anelia won the prize for `discovery of the year`. `Samo mene niamash` (You don’t have only me), her next song, became as great hit as `Pogledni me v ochite`. In the summer edition of `Fresh` chart on Planeta TV it took the first place.
On June 15, 2003 at the festival `Thrace Folk 2003` Anelia won the first award of the audience for the song `Obichai me`(Love me). This again proved the love of her fans.
Recently Anelia works over her second personal album.
